ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the expression of stanniocalcin-2 (STC-2) and cellular-mesenchymal epithelial transition factor (C-met) in tumor tissues of cervical cancer patients and their clinical significance. Methods:A total of 110 cervical cancer patients were selected in Foshan First People′s Hospital from January 2014 to December 2018. Patients′ cancer tissue samples and normal tissue samples were collected during modified radical resection to determine and compare the expression levels of STC-2 mRNA and C-met mRNA in the two tissues, and to analyze the correlation between the expression levels of STC-2, C-met and the clinicopathological characteristics of the patients as well as the multivariate analysis of tumor metastasis and recurrence in the patients. The correlation between the expression of STC-2 and C-met and the time of postoperative tumor metastasis and recurrence in cervical cancer patients were analyzed after 24 months of follow-up.Results:The expression levels of C-met mRNA and STC-2 mRNA in cancer tissues were higher than those in adjacent normal tissues: 4.51 ± 1.21 vs. 3.97 ± 1.14, 2.57 ± 0.21 vs. 2.12 ± 0.24, there were statistical differences ( t = 3.41, 14.80, P<0.05). The expression of STC-2 and C-met in cancer tissues had no significant difference with age, pathological type, federation international of gynecology and obstetrics (FIGO) stage and tumor size ( P>0.05), but had significant difference with tumor recurrence or metastasis ( P<0.05). The results of Logistic multivariate analysis showed that vascular emboli, lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, depth of tumor invasion, C-met expression and STC-2 expression were independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of cervical cancer patients ( P<0.05). The expression of STC-2 and C-met were negatively correlated with the time of tumor metastasis in patients with cervical cancer ( r = - 0.663, P<0.001; r = - 0.747, P<0.001). Conclusions:The expression levels of STC-2 and C-met in cancer tissues of cervical cancer patients are higher than those in adjacent normal tissues, and the expression levels of STC-2 and C-met are negatively correlated with the time of metastasis. The expression of C-met, the expression of STC-2, vascular emboli, lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and the depth of tumor invasion are all independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of cervical cancer patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution characteristics of curcumin in turmeric capsules in rats. Methods:SD rats were given the capsules at the dose of 5 g· kg-1 , and plasma, liver, kidney, stomach and small intestine were withdrawn.Curcumin was determined by HPLC .Results:The results showed that the linear range of curcumin was 0.1-10μg· ml-1 .The metabolic results in vivo showed that t1/2 was (25.13 ±5.63) h, tmax was 0.50 h, Cmax was (0.44 ±0.01)μg· ml-1 , and AUC0-t was (2.11 ±0.04)μg· ml-1 · h.Meanwhile, curcumin could be detected out in gastrointestinal tract , liver and the other or-gans.Conclusion:Turmeric capsules can make curcumin rapidly absorbed and effectively distributed in various tissues of rats .The re-sults provide evidence for the clinical medication .

ABSTRACT

A 22-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital with a solitary, gradually growing and painless mass in the left shoulder for 2 years.Physical examination revealed no abnormality except for the skin lesion.Skin examination showed an elevated lesion measuring about 3.5 cm× 2.0 cm × 1.5 cm with smooth surface and normal color, which was located in the subcutaeous tissue, indurated and movable.Resection of the tumor was performed under local anesthesia. On visual observation during operation, the tumor was sited in the subcutaneous fat tissue,nodular-like and surrounded locally by fibrous pseudocapsules with a grey incisal surface and mild texture.Microscopicalty, the tumor was extremely similar to breast fibroadenoma with multiple lobuli, and each of the lobuli was composed of tubiform structures, basal cell-like epithelial cell trabs and fibromyxoid stroma abundant in fibroblast-like spindle cells. No hair bulb or primitive dermal papillae were observed in the lobuli, which were separated by compact collagen fibers infiltrated by a few scattered inflammatory cells.Fibromyxoid strotma was surrounded by basal cell-like epithelial cell strabs in most lobuli, and some tubiform structures were filled with a little thin lightly eosinophilic material in a concentric arrangement.Immunohistochemistry showed that intralobular epithelial cells were strongly positive for cytokeratin 5/6,but negative for CAM5.2 or carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA).In addition, the lightly eosinophilic material in lumens was negative for periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining. These results suggested that the tubiform structures were immature follicles, but not sweat ducts. The patient was diagnosed with nodular fibrofolliculoma (NFF) based on the clinical manifestations, morphological features, immunohistochemical and PAS staining results. No relapse was observed in more than 3 months of postoperative follow-up.As a benign trichogenic adnexal neoplasm with unique clinicopathological manifestations,NFF may be a new entity of cutaneous adnexal neoplasm.
